Module 1.1. Overall methodological approaches:


Museum of Industrial Heritage, M. Negri

From case studies, the course presents ways of analyzing an industrial site; directs students to the main conservation issues; informs them about the main organizations and programs at the international level in the field of industrial heritage; explains museum trends, museum design elements and heritage interpretation.



Module 1.2. Practical training module:


a / Industrial heritage: knowledge and project, M.Preite

The course, a support for the tutored project, aims to develop a certain familiarity with the conceptual categories that concern the industrial heritage. The concepts will be verified by their application to a number of Italian and foreign experiences of valorization of former industrial sites.

c / Corporate archives and sources of industrial heritage, G. Bonfiglio Dosio

The course deals with the IT organization of documents, the ways in which information is used in territorial programming and in the conservation and valorization of industrial heritage. It will focus on the following topics: 1. the definition of enterprise and entrepreneur in the different legal systems; 2. analysis of the activities of an enterprise; 3. the types of documents produced by the companies; 4. problems related to the preservation of the assets of the corporate archives; 5. the application of archival methodologies to the description of the assets of business archives; 6. policies, strategies, methods and tools for communication and valorisation of the assets of business archives; 7. the management of the archive. 



Module 2. Fundamentals:


a / From archeology to industrial heritage, G.L. Fontana

The seminar analyzes research methods in the field of industrial archeology and the history of industrial heritage. It analyzes the processes of heritage of the goods of industrial civilization in a multidisciplinary and comparative perspective by using the case study to promote the dissemination of good practices of knowledge, conservation and rehabilitation of industrial goods. He studies the forms of integration of industrial heritage with the typology of cultural property.


b / Industrial heritage and local development, G.L Fontana

The seminar analyzes in a multidisciplinary and comparative perspective the role of the industrial heritage in the evolution of urban contexts and in the economic and social transformations of the territories from the historical, cultural, economic, urban, symbolic and identity points of view.

City and Industry, G. Zucconi

The seminar analyzes the impact of old or recent production activities in the different urban and territorial contexts both pre-existing and created ex-novo (as in the case of the company towns), with particular attention given to the cultural and economic problems of the wastelands as an "anchor point of modernity".


Business history, Mr. Bertilorenzi

The seminar aims to provide notions of business history in order to understand the role of economic actors (companies and entrepreneurs), their forms of organization and their strategies in technical and productive choices. In particular, we will focus on the problem of technological innovation as a result of strategies and corporate structures, belonging to specific social and historical contexts. An institutional approach to the historical problem of the enterprise will be adopted, in order to understand the mutual interactions between actors and society in the technical and economic transformations.


Urban Anthropology, F. Fava

The seminar analyzes strategies and issues related to the heritage of the city in accordance with the practice of urban anthropological research, highlighting, through case studies, the different logics of which public decision makers, architects, urban planners and residents are carriers and their conflicts and articulations in the development of contemporary urban spaces.


Oral history of tangible and intangible heritage, E. Novello

The seminar analyzes the role of oral sources in policies to promote trades and production techniques threatened with extinction. Collection and reuse are apprehended in working group and implemented in the realization of an original report to present in class.
