Semester 3 - Evora

Module 1.1. Overall methodological approaches.

Heritage, museology and memory construction, M. da Luz Sampaio, A. Cardoso de Matos

This course discusses the notions and concepts that link multiple museological typologies and strategies to the memory of individuals and communities. It then relates them to the principles of museological practice and options for valorization.

Module 1.2. Practical Training Module.

a / Cultural landscapes and industrial territories: methodology and project, A. Cardoso de Matos, M. A. Bernardo

b / Tutored project

The students are divided into work groups by cross-referencing their initial skills (historians, archaeologists, architects, cultural professions, etc.). They are assisted by a tutor. Each work group is given a technical object to study. They then decide on the realization: a museum valorization of the site or collection, the cultural or cultural setting of the site or collection, the organization of an exhibition.

c / Images, Sources of Technical Heritage, A. Fialho Conde, A. Cardoso de Matos

Images are important sources for studying the history of science and technology, heritage and landscapes. The course offers tools for understanding the relationship between technology and society from both a theoretical and practical perspective: analysis and development of iconographic collections; analysis of the ways in which different types of images can be used for the history of techniques, the interpretation of heritage and cultural landscapes.

Module 2. Fundamentals.

a/ Ecosystems, landscapes and heritage management, A. Fialho Conde, R. Sousa Matos

b/ The landscapes of technical innovation: analysis and societal impact, A. Cardoso de Matos, P. M. Simões, M. da Luz Sampaio

The seminar analyzes the historical relationship between nature and major public works by studying the visible (superstructure) and invisible landscapes (mines, underground works, urban infrastructures). It presents the landscape and social consequences of major works of art.
